Malassezia Yeast, Morgellons, Demodex or Parasites?

Malassezia Yeast, Morgellons, Demodex or Parasites?
Malassezia Yeast, Morgellons, Demodex or Parasites?
    Samples Under Microscope1 MB
Back in time when i first created the original ‘Sonata’s Story’ Blog
seeing how events were developing fast in regard to increasing visitor numbers,
i decided to create an improved version and  ‘Malassezia – My Story’ was born…
On the Banners on Both sites one can see the inclusion of Demodex and Morgellons
as well as Fungal infections, simply because at the time i was searching and trying
to find out what the problem was as the symptoms were multiple and confusing.
I have written the story of how it was all initially thought as head lice, then body lice,
then scabies, then parasites, then demodex, then morgellons and along the search line
i was taking a slice of a theory from different forum gyrations, aided by photos
and symptoms described, some matching some not, and the theory kept changing
while i was frantically trying to deal with a Medusa like of a Devil.
I spent hundreds of dollars and donned on me near lethal quantities of any chemicals
i could get my hands onto, and i fought my husband tooth and claw against the idea
of buying a Microscope – what would be the point? the Google photo
and some symptoms mentioned on other sites indicated clearly
that i had Morgellons so why spend extra money for a microscope?
 – until thankfully in the end being out of solutions or reliable identification
and the Morgellons stories starting to unfold for me like a script out of Dr WHO
i was finally persuaded and grudgingly agreed for us to get a Digital one.
This, initially opened the path to more confusion, feelings of horror
and resistance accepting what stared back at me, but then i got down to work
and numerous photos were taken of equally numerous samples
from everywhere i could collect them from both of us.
Soon its usefulness became apparent when we were able to view
what by the naked eye looked like bumpy, pimply hair follicles,
that were in fact creature infested and impregnated,
 Hair Follicle1 MB
and what was even more difficult to see clearly but felt painful and itchy
in the private area, that were purple bumps
Purple Bumps on Labia1 MB
and how they opened and augmented as they developed
Malassezia Lesion1 MB
or  how the Creature was Liquid and Mobile such as on fingers
Malassezia on Fingers1
Still there were many questions and identification still very hard
other than knowing whatever it was it did Not look like Lice or Scabies.
At the time my entire body was covered with regularly erupting bumps,
scratch lines and lesions and my hair thickly gluey, comb impenetrable
                              and falling by the clumps.
These were some of the photos of ‘allegedly’ Morgellons symptoms
i compared with what looked almost identical to the lesions i had on my body:

  M Google Images 1 MB

Under the Digital Microscope i could see some short black fibres
                                      … seemingly moving!
I dismissed as possible clothe or carpet fibres
I was desperate enough to be gullible enough not only to believe
but to even try this … Morgellon’s… ‘cure’:
“Have a Bath with Sun powdered laundry detergent with Colorsafe Bleach PLUS Alfalfa tablets.
These seem to combine to produce something that is lethal to the machines. (Machines???)
This cure for Morgellon’s disease was discovered by accident.” Cure???
( accident! sounds more like it … Lol!…)
No need to say it was a Laughable Proposition of Zilts Results
despite many boxes of washing powder and bottles of Alfalfa,
if one could be in a mood to laugh…
Soon it was obvious that this magnification was not adequate
and something stronger closer to professional level was needed
– but again my man had to fight me even though i could now see
the need for it myself – but i could also see the hundreds of dollars
having escalated to thousands – without any results to show…
Eventually, i gave in and we bought the Biological Microscope.
In retrospect, one of the Best things we could have ever done!
After initial familiarisation with the viewing, things started to look
seriously ‘Interesting’ as well as helping to clarify
some of the mysteries viewed by the Digital one.
Many samples later, when we could repeatedly and unfailingly see
                      the constant presence of ‘SOMETHING’
i started searching Google and G/ Images
for Parasites, alleged Morgellons fibres and Demodex,
using as many variations of keywords i could think of
so the engines would bring as many links and / or photos as possible…
While searching i saw photos that burned the retinas of my eyes,
burned holes in my brain and memory – and made me sick in the stomach,
yet i still kept pressing on.
None of the Countless ones we saw of Parasites
seemed to match the ones we could see in Our samples
                    – they looked somewhat similar? … yet not!…
Neither did they seem to match any of the Morgellons ones
despite the many almost identical resemblance of lesions
and other physical symptoms on photos of body parts.
We could see Fibres very clearly under the B microscope,
and unlike the ones that looked only black under the Digital,
some of the same sample ones as well as of many others,
looked bright Red, well formed, rounded and robust,
some looked Maroon, and some grayish, empty and dishevelled,
and much like dendrites opened up in some parts and disintegrating.
Some samples of crystalline shards, revealed developing fibres (1)
and only one among many samples of mine, while a few of my man’s,
showed what very closely resembled a Demodex.(2-3)

Samples Under Microscope1 MB

Having no other way of finding out the identity of viewed items
i posted some photos and a desperate message
in a Microscope related  Forum where people were posting photos
and  Microscope related discussions, some as hobby
and – as i understood it- some as professionals
                        – and so  i enlisted their help.
Many responded trying to help but no one could tell with certainty
except for One person who presented me with their full name and credentials
and Related work in the Field and Identified one of the Photos
as a Yeast Fungus but  as a good Professional refrained from making
a diagnosis and urged me to see… a Specialist… which i did … twice!
but turned out to be a very painful, extremely regretful experience …
                    and a hopeless – dead case one…
Nevertheless, i am eternally Grateful to that Gentleman
that made the effort to respond to my plea
because his input help me Immensely and changed my Life
                       or rather Saved it!!
I must confess here, that knowing nothing about Yeast Fungus
i was initially rather sceptical about the correctness of the identification
but having practically ruled out the Parasite case and finding nothing under
either one of the Microscopes that could substantiate the Morgellons case
and remembering also my man exclaiming loud the very first time
we saw movement under the Digital Microscope:
              “Geeeesus!… this looks like Fungus!...”
i thought if nothing else, out of courtesy to this  Gentleman
         – and an experienced Professional  for that matter-
i should search Google and Google Images and see if there is anything
that resembled the ‘Yeast Fungus’ identification of our samples.
And here came the most Significant Revelation!

Photos 1- 2: Our samples

   Malassezia Hyphae with Nodules1 MB

                                        Photo 3 – 4:

                       Google images/ Photo sources:

M Google Images 2 MB

Identical looking FibresDistinctive Nodulated joints and abundant presence

of surrounding spores? / ‘meatballs’ – which unfortunately are not visible
in our photos due to poor ‘phone camera’ quality- despite absolute clarity
when viewed under the Biological Microscope!
On the assumption that the above ‘Lab Photos’ published on Google Images
are showing correctly identified and named the Samples
as Malassezia Yeast Fungus and after comparing the striking similarity of details
i was left with absolutely no doubt any more
and targeted both my Research and Treatment efforts in that direction.
Many more samples from both of us from as many areas as we could collect
repeatedly showed the same theme, over and over and over
Malassezia fibres/hyphae – coloured according to the different
stages of development, e.g. bright red when freshly drawn blood
marron later on, dark gray at end of cycle, light gray at beginning
of disintegration and light ash colour gray with a dendrite appearance
when breaking open and falling apart.
No movement of the liquid stage was visible under the Biological Microscope
as we did not use any medium –we just placed the samples under the lenses-
showing only as liquid ‘appearance’ but the movement of the liquid stage
was clearly visible under the Digital Microscope.
The unseen movement became apparent when the samples were viewed again
a few days later indicating very perceptible growth or augmentation.
Now let us  Compare some of Our Photos with some Google Images:
                                                 Alleged Morgellons

Nail in the above ‘Morgellons’ photo is highly Fungus infected

Also many Blood spots and lines visible  -another Malassezia characteristic

Below how Nails can deceptively Look healthy to the Naked eye (1-2 )

Malassezia and Nails3 MB

And  what a view with a Digital microscope can reveal (1-2):

Infected Nails1 MB

( Note similarity with the ‘Morgellons’ one – (3) )

Regarding Morgellons, according to one Online Source:
“This condition is not currently recognized as a distinct clinical disorder
with established diagnostic criteria that are generally accepted
                                         by the medical community…”
This does not mean Morgellons does not exist – but simply that
i do not feel i am qualified to verify its existence or validity of symptoms etc.
In my view – and there is always a good chance for error – either many cases
of simple Malassezia Yeast symptoms are Mistaken or Confused as Morgellons
or If Morgellons as such exists, causes the onset of aggravated Malassezia symptoms.
Incidentally, this Morgellons Photo shown above
also appears as Lyme Disease in Google Images!

    L Google Images1 MB

                         So… Who named it Morgellons
and Who named it Lyme disease
           and most importantly
                    Which one Is It?…
If indeed … Any of Either???
                                Lyme disease is Detectable
                              And Treatable with Antibiotics.
(At least in the early stages)
For me, what is More important  than either Naming or Category
is  Finding ways to either Control its devastating symptoms
or an Overall Effective Internal Cure
where i consider the origin and proliferation is taking place
– a belief i have finally arrived at after many months of observations.
Control i have already achieved to the greatest degree achievable
at least so far – but there is no ground that can be guaranteed
              as permanently gained and established.
Therefore, i have been hoping and working towards finding an actual
and hopefully more lasting treatment,  either by means
of some aid or by changing and enhancing my immune system
while in the meantime applying the methods that keep it under control
and minimise both the Malassezia presence
as well as manifestation or severity of symptoms
thus making the everyday life liveable.
Note: This Entry was first published 2 years or so ago
Since then greater Insight into Malassezia reality
has been gained and presented in more recent entries

Malassezia: Deterrents-Fakes- Breeders and Killers

Malassezia and Environmental Treatments

Malassezia T4

In the Bath and / or Directly on the Body – (Topical Results)

* Laundry Detergent

* Pool Salt in bath water when seawater not available.

* Mineral tablets in bath water whensea water not available

* Bicarbonate Soda

* Natural Sea Salt (Celtic)

* Epsom salts

* Alfalfa, Wheat Grass, Barley Greens

* Charcoal Tablets

( Some  More Aggravating or No Effect whatsoever )

Some Methods Used

Water Bombs with a richly wet facecloth

(LOL! when i was a Naïve Newbie and did not know the right way to do it)

Hair Drier , Heater and Cool Fan

(Deterring until Area returned to normal temperature – Cool Fan Ineffective)

* Extremely Hot Water or  Air – ( No Difference )

* Extremely Cold Water – wash /dip in wash basin   ( No Difference )

(Perhaps if emerged area for an hour in ice blocks

and manage to avoid hypothermia, clotting, heart attack etc….

would such risk be worth the effort to treat topically only and temporary?)

* Extremely Cold Water –  walking in the Sea

(Highly Effective especially when temperature 16 C)

* TENS Machine (Transcutaneous Electronic Nerve Stimulation)

Topically Effective -Drawback: the pads are coated with glue gel

thus re-inviting yeast when currents stop

* Dousing and Treating Internal Vagina area

(Temporary relief but not effective clearing)

* Inserting Vitamin C powder -tablet

(Appears Malassezia likes acidity – seems to attract instead of repel)

* Inserting Salt and Soda individually and together –(Made no difference)

* Clotrimazol Cream as well as Tablet

(Tablet only may have been OK but not available in quantity.

Cream was a disaster of Malassezia attraction due to its emollient basis.)

* Inserting Antibiotic tablets -Temporary deterrent

* Inserting Cotton Wool  ( to keep area totally Dry)

(Initially deterring while dry -Malassezia avoids dry- then becomes inviting

due to its hair/fibre like quality and moisture absorption.

* Creating Environmental ‘Arctic Effect’

(Winter 5-8 Celsius during Night- No heating-leaving window/door open

and turning the fan on – no Blanket no pyjamas just light vest and knickers)

No Effect on Malassezia – could easily come with me to the North Pole…

* ‘Heat Effect’ – Using Hair Drier on High

– On Head/ Scalp

– Near as close as possible to delicate Private areas

– Anywhere where a crawling sensation was felt

(And while i was getting singed i could hear Malassezia laughing!)

* Intentional Perspiration Drenching

– Turning On Electric Blanket on High All Night

– Long Flannelette winter pyjamas

– Woollen Beanie on head

– Covering Body with Quilt plus Blankets

(This certainly brought it out of all areas but did not do it any harm

Perhaps the heat threatened it or perspiration /humidity stimulated it.

One beneficial result was that a lot of Malassezia Gray /Orange sticky

was on my Clothes rather than on my Body)

Malassezia on Clothes 1 MD

* Heat Soak – Nail Brush Scrub- with Pyrithione Zinc

(Seems to be a moderately effective control on both body and scalp

It is still  part of my daily routine.

until suspected formula change with detrimental effects – and discontinued

( Generally most of the above except where otherwise stated

either More Aggravating or No Effect whatsoever )

Environmental Treatments

* Swimming in Chlorinated Pool – (not anymore)

(Drove Malassezia into internal areas -took me a long time to realise

although i could feel it crawling as soon as i hit the water

and chlorine dried the skin rendering it vulnerable to easy Malassezia digging)

* Swimming in Salt-Chlorinated Pool – (not anymore)

Same as above but more quiet time before its returning to the surface

which i had also initially wrongly interpreted for a while as clearing.

* Washing All Bedding and All Clothing Daily (still Do!)

Yet there have been times when i was dealing with fractured bones

and was unable to follow strict routine yet there was no dramatic change.

* Bombing the House with Permethrin and other Pesticides

   No Effect whatsoever!

* Discarding Furniture, Bedding, Clothing etc.

(2/3 of All Contamination Susceptible items replacing with new)

Felt good buying new ones but No effect on Malassezia

* Moving Out of Home and Renting – in Newly Built Apartment

A very Expensive Eye Opener to the Reality and Nature

of what i was truly dealing with.

Many helpful discoveries – Many puzzle pieces came together

many false beliefs or interpretations cleared and observed

with a more open accepting mind,  leading to better

healthier and more effective solutions been followed since .

Yet Some Measures Necessary to a Moderate Degree

As Reasonable Daily Maintenance

Acidophilus Capsules – Applied:

  On Head- Scalp/Hair – Ears inside/outside – Face – External Genital areas

On Lesions Anywhere – Legs, Feet, Toes.

Also Internally: 1) Orally 2) Inserted in the Vagina 3) Inserted Anally

(2 &3 Bypass stomach Acids delivering Bacteria Directly in areas needed)

Seawater and Seaweed – Applied:

On Ears inside/outside – Face – External Genital areas

On Lesions Anywhere – Legs, Feet, Toes.

*Aloe Vera (Fresh Plant Only) – Applied:

On Lesions Anywhere – Especially Malassezia Occupied, Irritated Eyelashes

Have tried Commercial Gels  but did not work

as they contain alcohol type preservative/drying agents

YAM (Yoghurt-Milk-Acidophilus Capsules Mix) – Applied:

On Ears outside – Face – External Genital areas

On Lesions Anywhere – Legs, Feet, Toes.

Head & Shoulder (Zinc Pyrithione)

Applied while having a Bath/Shower – And as Body Wash:

   On Head- Scalp/Hair – Ears inside/outside – Face – External Genital areas

On Lesions Anywhere – Legs, Feet, Toes.

2014: Had to discontinue use later on after suspected changes in formula

having negative effects.- see later Entries

Methylated Spirits – Applied:

On Ears on outside – Face

(External Genital areas Briefly Dabbed only)

On Lesions Anywhere – Legs, Feet, Toes.

(On a Cotton Wad left until dry)

Mycil (Tolnafate ) – Applied:

Feet, Toes – Have tried on Lesions and Pubic area – deters Briefly only

– The Bilaterals  – Deter initially – for a short time – then Attract

Nizoral – Applied:

On Head – Scalp/Hair – Ears – and all over Body as Body Wash

Occasionally dubbed undiluted on a small area under attack

activity stopped – as with applying anything – but result undetected

Permethrin (Cream Shampoo) – Applied:

   On Head – Scalp/Hair – Ears

   Ineffective Unless it contains BUTOXIDE

Delayed Yeast return and activity and feeling of dry stretched scalp

indicates perhaps it may kills ‘spores’ – the Only one i know

Selsun Gold (Selenium Sulphite) – Applied:

   On Head – Scalp/Hair – Ears (Ineffective)

Fresh Lemon Juice – Applied:

   On Head – Scalp/Hair – Ears – Shoulders –Torso

Relocates yeast quickly then it returns with a vengeance!

Apple Cider Vinegar – Applied:

   On Head – Scalp/Hair

Relocates yeast quickly then it returns with a vengeance!

Iodine, Dettol Disinfectants – Applied:

On Lesions directly–diluted and undiluted–as deterrents and in the Bath

Greasy and Sticky and highly inviting Yeast back!

Neutrogena Oil Free – Applied:

On Dry, Plastic -Lizard like skin- destroyed by Malassezia Sticky Layer.

Left on for extended time or overnight dissolves and clears dead skin

but contains Salicylic acid (Blood Thinner) causing bruising

and in my case bleeding as well.

( Its Intended use is to be applied briefly and rinse )

There are safer alternatives in Seawater and YAM

Acetyl/Alcohol containing Items –such as Shampoos or Lotions

Causing quick Yeast Return and possible proliferation

though i have not confirmed the latter!

Malassezia Fakes

Applied On the Body Externally

Colloidal Silver – Applied:

All Over Body and Lesions – No apparent Effect whatsoever

Also Taken Internally (for many months)

Scabies Creams

Athletes Foot cream

Both the above applied Morning and Night back to back

for many weeks – dozens of tubes

SALT as in  SEA SALT – POOL SALT –  And Commercial Table Salt

I have used both types for extended periods of time and massive quantities

except Commercial Salt due to Raising Blood Pressure and causing Clotting.

In Swimming Pool, in the Bath massive quantities- as Foot Spa etc

It hydrates the Skin but i noticed it leaves it vulnerable to Malassezia.

A minimal benefit was a somewhat faster healing of lesions

but not anywhere near the Real – Seawater!

Seawater Hydrates the Skin but Deters the Yeast

–Protects and Heals – Fast!!!

Applied directly on Body and in the Bath water

Soda is the opposite to Salt that it Dries the Skin badly

and so rendering it vulnerable to Malassezia.

Burns where Malassezia is present or on lesions and only deters briefly – if so…

Epsom Salts – Simply No Effect!

Malassezia Breeders

  Applied On the Body Externally

  * * * * ALL OILS!!! * * * *

OILS-Lotions-Ointments-Body washes-Shampoos-Conditioners

Gels –Lanoline and Generally ALL Greasy /Fatty / Waxy items

Irrespective of Any Antifungal or Antiseptic qualities

including medicated preparations.

Theoretically expected and falsely believed to Kill –

 instead Facilitating Malassezia Multiplication

* Vaginal Clotrimazol (Cream) Prescription and Over Counter- Applied:

Inserted in Vagina. Initially soothing then shortly afterwards

burning like Fire -the Malassezia Fire- and a Frenzy of Traffic back in!

Took a while and repeated Blood and Lesions along the walls

to realise it was an enemy rather than a helper

having caused a lot of Unbearable pain and Discomfort

for quite some time – and the more internal lesions

the greater the fight to keep Malassezia out.

It took starting to Insert 3 Acidophilus Capsules daily directly inside

to finally Sooth, Deter Malassezia and allow it to beautifully Heal the area.

(There was an unexplainable Paradox at this conjecture

which i worked out after starting the regular course of Acidophilus

and being able to observe the cycle of internal/external traffic

the healing, the deterring and the lessening of return traffic,

Malassezia  –early stage– coming out of the Vagina is harmless

causing only a Burning sensation as it spreads along on the outer body

and settles in follicles but It turns ferocious  when returning at maturity

creating painful Lesions along the walls as is preparing for multiplication.)

All Three Below – Applied:

Scabies Creams

Canesten Athletes Foot Cream (Clotrimazol 10mg/g)

Daktarin (Miconazole Nitrate)

All Over the Body – from Ears/Neck down to Toes

– Daily for Many months – Dozens of tubes…

and More and More Malassezia Frenzy after a brief quiet.

And Now the Worst Category of All

The All in One ‘Breeders’ Basket

-As Pure Oils Directly on Externally affected areas

-As Ingredients in Body Wash/Lotions –Shampoo/Conditioners

-And In the Bath

* Tea Tree Oil  (100% as well as water soluble)

* Eucalyptus Oil – (both 100% as well as water soluble)

* Sandalwood Oil

* Mix of Aromatic Oils:

Grape seed,  Sweet almond, Avocado , Hazelnut, Jojoba,

Sandalwood, Ylang-Ylang  with Lanolin and other acetyl/alcohol

Malassezia Fighters

Malassezia: DeterrentsFakesBreedersKillers– Introduction

In the Very Long List of items i have used throughout the time

there have been some items with different qualities and results

depending on the way used –i.e On the  Body Internally or Externally

or on Environment i.e Carpets/Furniture/ Bedding/Towels/Clothing etc.

Since this may be confusing to the reader who usually lands

on an isolated Entry found through Search engines by Keyword

i decided it might be helpful to attempt to file them

in particular categories and then clarify some points

about their operations and results.

Some of the items belong to one – two or all three categories

depending on the way and / or conditions used.

I have Observed Four Main Categories:

      Applied On the Body Externally

The Deterrents The Fakes  The Breeders  – The Killers

*  The Deterrents can be divided in subcategories:

– The Neutrals – Neither Kill –Nor  Attract Malassezia

just Prevent and Stymie Yeast cycle completion

– The Bilaterals  – Deter initially -for a short time- then Attract back

*  The Fakes  – Expected to work – – – But!…

Have No Effect or very Short and Undetectable

* The Breeders  – Theoretically and Falsely Believed to Kill

                              Instead Facilitating Yeast Multiplication

* The Killers can be divided into three categories

–  The Bullets – Effective on Impact

–  The Poisons – Slowly over time

–  The Bombs –  Blast the embedded Yeast but leaving a painful mess

On the Opposite side we have the Fighter – Defender Benefactors:

The Defenders  –The Soothers and The Healers

–  They Defend the Area, Sooth Burning and Itching and Heal Lesions

Treatments: “Big Difference-No Difference” – D

   Malassezia Dictionary

     Malassezia Methods and Treatments

* Big Difference – No Difference *

                      Malassezia Chart MD

        * One Important point of Clarification  *

                                       When i Say:

“Something Does/Did – Does Not/Did Not  make Any Difference”

i mean it in regards to Curing / Eliminating  Malassezia.

As i mention throughout several entries in the * Malassezia Bog*

there are many things that DO and Have MADE

a great deal of Difference –  in my Own Condition

Compared to How it was in the Beginning

and How it is  Now regarding

                Malassezia Presence and  Activity

as well as its Symptoms and Effects on my Body.
             The Difference has been Tremendous
… yet Malassezia is still Present and Active.

Only a Good Immune System can keep it in Check and Unnoticed

                 – – –  though Still Present and Active – – –

as a Naturally Occurring Body Flora – on ALL People.

There are though,  Methods and  Items that serve

as Deterrents – Healers – Soothers and as Killers

that when  applied under Certain Conditions

Can Treat Successfully Specific Needs and Purposes

   * Topically – Externally – Temporarily *

Most ‘Medicated’ Items appear near useless

while some Medications fill the role of the missing Eliminator

requiring Long time Treatments and even them have only

a temporary effect due to high Malassezia Recurrence.

( I shall deal with Each Category above in Detail in upcoming Entries )

  * * *

Also wherever i use the term ‘Spores’ it is because of lack of a better

descriptive word for the  newly ‘hatched’ Malassezia cloned sister

                    and the ‘meatball’ spherical  appearance

                   of surrounding hyphae developed shards

viewed under Microscope and in Photos

                 – mine as well as those in Google Images.

(More on the subject of multiplication in upcoming entries)
